Clifton Hefner

BSc Hons (Texas), GAICD

Clif is Chairman of the Board. He joined the Board in 2015.

Clif is an Adjunct Professor, holds board roles and is Vice President of the Australian-American Association. He has held a number of technical and operations executive positions for multi-national companies, has provided management consulting advice across a number of disciplines, and owns a beef cattle property.

Clif is a pilot (fixed and rotary wing).



Ian Tait



Ian joined the Board in 2012 and is the Deputy Chairman. Ian provides executive services to the group in the area of aviation insurance.

Ian has 35 years of technical, financial and management experience. He has held board roles on a number of aviation companies across Australia. He is a current pilot and has owned several aircraft.



Captain Raymond Heiniger


Ray joined the Board in 2012 and is Chair of the Safety & Flight Operations Sub-Committee.
Ray spent 37 years with QANTAS, including as a Boeing 747 captain, as Chief Pilot, Group General Manager Flight Operations and Director of Flight Training.

Ray is Head of Training for Boeing Flight Training (Asia/Pacific) and oversees pilot training at the Airline Academy.

He is a current pilot and has owned several aircraft.



John Cleland

BEc, Dip Fin Man, FFin, GAICD

John is a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Finance & Audit Sub-committee. John joined the Board in 2014.

John has held senior executive positions with multi-national companies including several board roles.

John is a current pilot.



Iain Watson

BA Hons, MSc, PhD, FAIM

Iain is a Non-Executive Director and joined the Board in 2015.

Iain has held leadership roles with various top ranking universities worldwide. Iain is currently Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law (BEL) at the University of Queensland and a member of the Global Advisory Boards of Yonsei Business School ( Korea) and Lingnan College, Sun Yat-sen University (China). Iain is a founding member of the Queensland Male Champions of Change group ( and continues to provide expert opinion to the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Securities and Investment Commission in matters that relate to Corporate Governance and Insider Trading.



John McDonald


John joined the board in 2007. John is a past Royal Queensland Aero Club President and former Board chair.

John completed an engineering apprenticeship, owned his own heavy transport company and was a director of a number of companies.

John is a pilot.




Craig Duncan

BA (Otago), MBA (Bond), GAICD, FAIM, FAIEA

Craig is Group Chief Executive. He was a Board Member from  2011 – 2015.

Craig has 25 years management experience across the aviation, business consulting, government, finance, and service sectors. This includes an executive role with a leading Australian regional airline. Craig has experience in the secondary education and vocational training sectors.
