Location Of Royal Queensland Aero Club

The flying campus of the RQAC is located adjacent to the Terminal Building (on the northern side) at Archerfield Airport only 15 minutes by car from the heart of Queensland’s capital city, Brisbane. Entry is via the Main Entrance and parking is available in the Public Carpark. Archerfield has been one of the major centres of general aviation in Queensland for over 60 years.

The airport covers 245 hectares (605 acres) and the runway system comprises two pairs of parallel runways in two directions, 040/220 and 096/276 degrees magnetic. The primary parallel 10/28 runways and full-length parallel taxiways have sealed pavements with one equipped with pilot activated lighting while air traffic control services are provided from Archerfield’s control tower.

Due to its location adjacent to the primary control zones at Brisbane, Coolangatta and Maroochydore airports, Archerfield Airport is an ideal training ground for commercial pilots. It provides the opportunity to experience, early in the student’s career, the operating conditions associated with a busy controlled air space. Training flights are regularly scheduled into these controlled zones and during more advanced stages of flight training, the student will land at Brisbane International Airport and become familiar with using regional airline parking bays.

Weather

Brisbane, located in South-East Queensland, boasts consistent good weather with few extremes in temperature or rainfall. Beautiful one day, perfect the next. Weather is comparable to Southern California in terms of a temperate climate without the environmental problems. This enables access to a variety of pristine coastal and hinterland locations within a brief flight time from our base location. The good weather optimises available training time and a variety of terrain offers landing areas and conditions which are not available elsewhere.
